Bill's Rosé Wine Blog

Who is Bill?

Bill has a passion for wine and “discovered” Rosé wine thirty or so years ago in the South of France, at a time when the wines were very good there, but often failed to travel well. This had to be overcome before his idea of specialising in marketing top quality Rosé wines within the UK could be realised. Happily, this has now been achieved by adding modern production methods to the traditional skill of the winemakers resulting in wines that are superb anywhere!
Bill had forecast the expanding market for good Rosés long before it happened. He registered Rose-wine.com, established a reputation, and negotiated some of the best, most characteristic wines, at an early stage. The rest, as the say, is the stuff of legend!

Your Favourite Rosé?

Choosing a great selection of Rosés is an interesting and challenging task which I very much enjoy doing.  However, I'd like to enlist your help!  Do you have a favourite Rosé that you would like to see on our site?  Perhaps you've particularly enjoyed an amazingly good Rosé whilst travelling or on holiday?  I'd be delighted to have your suggestions and to see if they would be a good addition to our range. You can use the comments section below so the information can be shared and perhaps also commented on by other readers.  Many thanks! Bill

Bill dont know if you have tried it but it was a few bottles of  Pure a Savoie Rose which has sparked our interest in searching out Rose wines. We found it a very narural almost delicate taste. Savoyard wines, I suspect by their proximity to weathy sk resorts are probably a bit pricey or what they are but this rose and pinot noirs in general are probably worth it. I have't looked extensively but I have never seen one on sale in the UK in a shop. We find many roses too overpowering almost as if the grower doesn't have the confidence to let it stand on its own two feet andfeels the necessity to make a "weak" red, especially the new world offerings. Close second equal for us Aurelia Prima (Chateau de Fontlade Provence) and Italia pinot grigio rose. Cheers Rick.

Hi Rick,  Many thanks for your input.  I do know the wines you mention and you are right to think they would be appropriate for what we do.  I hope that we will be adding new wines every season not only from Provence and certainly featuring different grapes. There are some great Italian Pinot Grigio Rosés, really well made, and these will make a good addition to our range.  All our French wines are made the traditional way which allows great delicacy as the juice is left on the skins just long enough to impart colour and flavour.  If left too long the result can be too similar to heavier red wines.  Most of our wines are at the pale and light end of the spectrum.  Best wishes, Bill

Love the Domaine de La Rouillère Rosé

Visited the Vinyard a few months back!

Love it!

It is a great place to visit!  You can see the curve of Pampellone Bay from the vinyard where most of St Tropez's trendy beach bars are located.  This was also the location for Vadim's famous film "And God Created Woman" starring Brigitte Bardot in the 1950's.  The vineyard benefits from sea breezes throughout the year ensuring a healthy climate for the grapes.  In the evening the fragrance of lavender and pine is overwhelming!

Hi there,
I fell in love with RIVERCREST ROSE wine the first time i tried it, but now i CAN NOT find it any where. Can you pleeeeeese help me as its my favourite.

REPLY From Bill
Thanks for your question.  The Rivercrest Californian Rosé was made by E & J Gallo and the reason it is hard to find now is that it has been discontinued for about a year. It's a shame, but these things happen! Don't despair though, you could try Gallo Wine Maker's Seal Rosé (Recently added to our list) or their White Zinfandel. We now offer a selection of popular Californian wines which are medium to medium sweet.  Hope this helps. Thanks, Bill

Do you know where I can get this...3 Pebble Bay Californian Zinfandel?  My mam had it in a restaurant and keeps asking if I can find it anywhere.

Thanks
Gemma

REPLY from Bill

Hi Gemma,  Thanks for the enquiry.  Restaurant wines can be hard to track down as some labels are made especially for this trade and not sold by shops under the same name.  I found a lot of references to the 3 Pebble Bay wine, but couldn't find a retailer.  It's description sounds quite similar to the Gallo White Zinfandel Californian wine now added to our list. Despite its name this is usually a good Rosé colour and generally is medium sweet in style. Hope this helps!  Bill

Went on line to find three pebble bay wine got the phone number and placed an order from Thomas Peatlings. Service was excellent apparantly one cannot buy this wine in Scotland its a pity as it would save paying carriage but I still think it is worth it as I enjoy it so much.
