Wine Spectator Magazine, comments about a previous vintage, "Dried plum and cherry flavours are firm and accented by plenty of herbal notes.  Hints of hot spice mark the finish."  Jean Louis Bavay, wine maker at Chateau Routas sums it up as having "Superb fruit and structure."  This is equally applicable to the current vintage, it's a lovely and satisfying deep red wine.  A careful blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache it is an exemplary Vin de Pays du Var, IGP.  Careful, labour intensive vinification together with Barrel aging in French oak all add to the richness of this wine.  The blend has changed a little and the label has changed too.  It used to be called "Wild Boar" Red, and if you enjoyed it before you will certainly enjoy it now.

Tasting Notes

Herbs de Provence and black cherries on the nose, whilst on the palate, ripe plums lead to sweet spicy notes on the finish.  Excellent on its own or with all meat dishes, pasta and soft cheeses.  Obviously good with Wild Boar, but beef. game and all red meats will be fine!  You can find more information about Chateau Routas here
